I chose this webquest because it was one with every page completed. The webquest is designed to take students through the Great Depression. Students are divided into groups where they assume the role of a character from the Great Depression and then learn more about them from a New York Times article. After reading it they discuss the article and describes how their character fits into the time period. This is my only criticism is that it doesn't exactly specify that students are suppose to write their own journal entries from their character's perspective but it would make sense that they would. So they then type a few journal entries that they will read to the class at the end of the week.
The idea is good and it is important that the webquest includes writing. The only things I would change is either have an example of how the journal entry should look or a more specific instruction sheet so they know how much to write. It does give topic ideas to discuss in the journal. The page is easy to navigate and the link to the newspaper worked fine. It says this would be a week long lesson using three days for the journals and two for presenting. I don't feel there is enough material for that and I think more material could be added and a day cut off. I would add a few more links with more pictures and things and give them two days to look at them and make notes. Then I would give them a day to focus on the writing and then two days to present. One newspaper link is not enough source info to write journals from.

ReplyDeleteI was not a fan of this webquest at all. I found it to be a poor webquest. The color scheme is terrible and there are very few photos and little information for the students to work with. I think that the task is good but having barely any information to work with can make a project biased or one sided. The teacher page did not include extra resources either, just materials like a computer and Internet.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Alanna about the color scheme. As I loaded the page I was a bit turned off from the task. I know it's picky but the font is a bit too large and for a school project I don't feel it's an appropriate font. I thought the rubric was suiting for the task. I also think that it should have included an example of the writing. If you like the concept I would definitely consider recreating it to your own preference and crediting.
ReplyDeleteWell, in my opinion I enjoyed the color scheme as I am a MIchigan Wolverine fan. I agree with Carly when she writes that everything was laid out for the students, and I am a fan of having the students having multiple decisions to make either being a stock broker, business man who lost everything, ect... and then being able to choose the year they investigate, I thought it was cool. I believe three days is an appropriate time frame for the students to complete this WebQuest.
ReplyDeleteits important that the students have everything laid out for them to avoid confusion or wasting time. and the color scheme is fine, i dont think its anything to worry about but this is a matter of preference over a black and white issue.
ReplyDeleteI like the task in this webquest, and that the students have a say in how they will go about the task. I agree that the tasks are laid out clearly and with forethought. I do not think the layout is that bad---It is the Swedish flag! This is not a complicated webquest, and I think that the students (10-12th graders) could really get into this project.
